Domestic Violence in Nigeria is said to be on the increase. About 50% of women are said to be battered by their husbands.
Sadly, more educated women (65%) are in this horrible situation compared to their less educated counterparts (55%) shockingly 97.2% of them do not report the crime to the Nigeria Police – NOIPolls. Those who report are attended to by @lagosstategovt through the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency and @sme100africa has been assisting them with entrepreneurship training and skills to start businesses or get jobs. In July & August 2022, 150 survivors of domestic and sexual violence were engaged in a 4-weeks Entrepreneurship & Employability Training.
On Tuesday 24th January, 2023 by 10:50am at Adeyemi Bero Hall, Alausa, Ikeja, the Lagos DSVA and SME100Africa graduated 104 beneficiaries of the Entreprenuership and Employability training who also received business grant empowerment skill.
The event comprised of three segments namely:
Testimony from the beneficiaries, presentation of awards and the distribution of certificates.
Two esteemed female leaders addressed the audience on what the Lagos state government domestic and sexual violence organisation entails, the creation and congratulatory messages to the graduating class of the maiden edition.
SME100AFRICA was duly acknowledged and recognized at the event through the phenomenal business lecture project given to the participants of this program.
The Graduation ceremony hosted : Mrs Titilola shitta Bey, Permanent secretary to Lagos state ministry of Justice. She spoke to the graduating class and addressed the community’s response to gender based violence. Furthermore, said a vote of thanks to SME100AFRICA for teaching the participants of the program.

Mrs Titilola Viviour Adeniyi, the executive secretary, Lagos state domestic and sexual violence, agency addressed the graduates and educated the audience on the projects, conducted on the participants through Lagos state and Sme100Africa. Furthermore, she congratulated the first ever graduating set of the program for achieving a ‘New milestone’ in their lives.

The event ended with the distribution of awards and certificates to the graduates. Some recipients of this award includes: Mrs Dandison awarded for being the most outstanding participant and Mrs Adegoke for being the most committed participant of the program.
