SANDRA AGUEBOR-EKPEROUH

Sandra is a lady mechanic. She received her education from Goethe Institute, Benin Technical college and the Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State. She is reputed to be the first lady mechanic in Nigeria, an ambition she nurtured since the teenage years.

Sandra opened her first workshop in 1993 and has trained over trained over seven hundred women in auto-mechanic techniques. Her initiative has been adopted in other Africa countries such as Liberia and Benin Republic. Within Nigeria, she has established for training workshops in Benin City in Edo State, Kaduna, Abuja, FCT and Lagos.

Sandra began her career at Bendel Transport Service, working in the maintenance and repairs Department. She later joined the Nigerian Railway  Corporation where she worked on locomotive engines.

She has received commendations from the US Department of State, the White House and was honoured with a National Productivity Order of Merit(NPOM) Award from President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012. Her work has been covered in local and international media such as CNN SABC South Africa. African Journals, BBC World News, New York Times, Voices of Africa and Del Spiegen.
